In my jeep I also ran 4 guage wire for ground from the battery to the mounting screw for the firewall, right and left fenders and engine block.
I did thiis after hearing some things like better spark better, grounding did get rid of a lot of annoying things like the buzzing that comes from time to time in the radio. also got rid of the electric gremlins that the grands are so prone too.
it seem to run better to although I couldn't prove it, it makes since these things run on the diference in resitence for mesurements.
but this was done at the same time as I replaced the battery with a red top and platimun battery connectors so I would have to say it all work togther to help it run better.
used to be as long as you had it running it would work but now with the computor models you need to have a fully funtioning electrical system as well anthing less will not work correctly or in most cases at all.

Alot of ppl with lots of watts in their stereo do the "big 3" where you run 4 gauge or lower wire from your alt to battery postive and add another ground to your alternator and battery. It helps get every last bit of your electrical system.
