Cant fit wrench in exhaust heat shields
Hi, I have a 5.9L 360 and im trying to change my spark plugs and i was wondering what size socket to use. I have three different specific spark plug sockets but they do not fit inside the heat shields so i do not know what to do. I am not even sure if any sockets will fit inside even though everything says they will. Thanks for looking!
rip em out!!!! all they do is trap dirt and sand in the hole and when you pull your plug out you dump all that crap in there... get a pair of pliars and yank them out then with some compresssed air spray out that junk that is cuaght in there...
sorry..not to descriptive... the sheilds hold dirt at the base of the plug...and when you pull the plug out the dirt and sand and crap falls (atleast has a tendancy to) into the cylinder...
Thanks. Can they be put back on? everything else i have read says to leave them on. Should i buy some heat wrap type thing for my wires? Another question. I am getting some dielectric grease with my new wires. Where does that go? Thanks a lot!
id just leave them off...spare parts lol.... the dieletric grease goes on any electrical conections to prevent corrosion and helps the conection, unless your racing it or really workng the moter (towing ect) the wires should be fine you can wrap them if you want but they should be ok
Are you using a 3/8" drive socket, they tend to have a thinner side-wall which will let it slip down the hole. If you have access to an air compressor, blow out the area around the plug to keep dirt from falling into hole when you pull out the plug. I put the dielectric grease on the tip of the plug (not the electrode) and also on the ceramic portion to help prevent the boot from seizing fast. Stick the plug in the wire and twist it to distribute the grease before reinstalling the plug.
