Default Steering Wheel Conversion

Ok I have a 97 Ram 1500 so the old interior. I really like the newer interior (98-01) I was wondering if a guy could take out just the steering wheel from a 94-97 and replace it with a 98-01 wheel? Will it bolt right up? What modifications would need to be made?

If the size of the column sprocket is the same then sure you could do it. You'll need a steering wheel puller and possibly a 98-01 clockspring and the 98-01 airbag. If you have cruise then you need to get a wheel with the cruise buttons (obviously). You have to be very delicate removing and installing that clockspring because it can be damaged very easily if you turn it the wrong way. The cost might be high for just improving looks.

I thought of doing the same thing as my steering wheel is a bit torn. I was told by the guy at the wrecker that the cruise would likely not work, so I forgot about the idea. If it works, let us know.

cruise shoudnt be the main issue...its just wiring... finding what signal is saposed to go to what wire... the big issue is installing that airbag correctly... so it dont go off on your in your face ...

The wrecker said the wiring was a problem, I should probably check with Dodge since I need a new wheel.

You just need to have the same year clockspring for the air bag and supposedly that will work ok ? I was advised not to short out the wires however as that could se the bag off. That would likely leave a mark too.
