Default Magnum valve covers

Does anyone know if the cast aluminum valve covers have better baffles under the pcv port than the stamped ones?
The reason I ask; I wanted to see if my plenum repair job was holding up. I pulled the tb looked in there, and everything
was good except for what looked to be a constant drip running down the inside surface of the intake from the boss where the
pcv vacuum line is connected. I had been getting an occasional ping at wot, and I'm pretty sure this is the cause.
I ordered a oil catch can off of ebay, but it is a POS. It has two mating surfaces, and five fittings (in, out, two for the oil level check tube, and one drain plug). When it first arrived, I put my thumb over the out, blew into the in, and air shot out everywhere. This thing has the potential to be a vacuum leak nightmare. While gunking the pos up with gasket maker and teflon tape, I remembered a couple of pics of the Magnum valve covers I had seen, and thought that this might be a better route than mounting that pos under my hood.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

honestly... either get a new pcv vavle or just cap that breather hold up and stick a vavle cover breather in the pcv hole...

Do you mean put a breather filter on both valve covers? I would love to do away with the pcv altogether. Would it cause any problems?
I read something that stated that the positive vacuum pressure keeps the rings from wearing as fast, but that kinda sounded like bs to me.
I do not live in CA, so no problems from the emissions angle. I believe that doing away with the pcv might help to cool down the intake air.

iv never heard of the positive pressure thing...but i put a breather on the passenger side vavle cover and it smoothed out the idle a little bit and the motor pulled a bit harder in OD not sure why...

read this thread https://dodgeforum.com/m_386820/tm.htm

me racinfan and steve were bouncin the idea around and experimented with the breather on the vavlecover and you can read the results there... i just got mine on and i think it helped alittle...

This is what I decided on for now. It is a filter for an air compressor. It is rated @ 150psi and seperates oil, dirt, and water from air. The other is a picture of an inline fuel filter I put in to see what was going on.

I would still rather go the Magnum valve cover route if they work better.

thats a nice isntall on the fuel filter!!! clean and out of the way... yea watch that inline filter to see what i catches..if its catching a buttload of oil...swap it out for a breather and see how it runs... theres no connections to the pcv so i dont see why a CEL would pop for it..unless you lose oil pressure but dont see out...

Certainly will post results here. I will take pictures of the collecting bowl and record the mileage increments at wich they were taken. The beauty of this filter is that it has a drain **** on the bottom of the collecting bowl with a tube fitting on it. So, if I feel like I need motor oil in my intake, I can drain it right back in there. BTW, I bought this air filter at Lowes for ~$23.

shott- I don't know if you can make it out in the picture (took that w/ my cell-next pics will be from camera), but I have a breather filter on the vent side valve cover. Is this what you are recommending I put in place of the pcv valve?

I would still like to hear from anyone who has the Magnum valve covers on whether or not the baffles are any better.

no the baffle in the valve covers suck... http://www.apsprecision.com/ has a new baffle available that is about $30 bux/pair. that should help out.

the other thing to keep in mind is that oil vapor is being pushed out of the breather filter so you need to keep an eye on the inside of it to make sure it doesnt clog. a clogged filter would not be good...
