You can use either. 6x9 are factory size so you can jst screw them rite into place. If you wanna put 6.5's in you can get plastic adaptors from places or make some sturdy ones with some wood.
I am running two amps in mine.
The original set up was a 4 channel amp under the drivers seat to run the 6X9's in the doors and the enclosure under the rear seat. Later I went to what I have now with 2 amps. The 6X9's in the doors, and component rear speakers are off the MTX 4 channel amp. Two 10's under the rear seat are off a bridged MTX 2 channel amp. Kicks a$$
As far as mounting the amps. The 4 channel amp is mounted under the center of front seat where the rear drink holder was. No one used it anyway. Under the drivers seat is where the second amp is. The passenger seat is not a good place because the seat has different springs under it for rear access which would hit the amp. Might be different with yours???? Mine doesn't have rear doors.
The doors as they say are designed for 6x9's.
It's fairly expensive but I have a MTX thunderform enclosure under the rear seat. I couldn't find a box to fit the truck when I did my system.
While running the wires for everything consider taking the drivers and center seat out of the truck. 8 bolts and much easier to run wires under carpet. All except the power and ground wires are next to the shifter/trans. hump where there is less chance of them getting damaged. 10 -12 FT RCA cables are good. If you get the standard 20' cables you will have to roll them up somewhere.

Thanks chopper1!
I have not noticed a difference between the springs underneath the driver and passenger seat, but I probably would be better off using the passenger seat than the driver seat because the passenger seat will get more back and forth action because my sons car seat is behind it, and since I'm the only one who will be driving the truck the driver seat won't be moved much. I do have a 4 doorby the way, and no rear cupholder. So the second amp will definitely go under the center seat.
The MTX thunderform enclosure sure looks like a real nice piece. But I just can't see spending that much for it when there is an option available for so much less.
One thing I'm worried about is I guess I'll have to figure out how to bypass the factory amplifier. Any advice on that?
Thanks

the factory amp is junk comapred to anything aftermarket...even an aftermarket HU of lower or mid quality will produce and redroduce better sound quality then what the stock amp can do... dont get me wrong the factory amp is nice and compared it with the factory HU its not a bad setup... but again anything aftermarket ESPECIALLY highend HU's like panasonic alpine pioneer will produce far more superior SQ then what the factory amp is capable to reproducing
Your right. I thought about that after I posted about bypassing the factory amp. I'll run new wires from the amps straight to the speakers so no worry about the factory amp.
One question about the A Pillar tweeters though. Should I run one wire to the fronts and then it splits to the door speaker and the tweeter? Or Do they each need their own channel?

You know......Im not really sure...idk if the crossover was in the amp or inline somewhere ? Your leaving the stock speakers but hookin up an aftermarket amp?
