Manifold Bolts breaking! FIXED
Has anyone else ran into this?
My 99 5.9 4x4 w/120K recently developed a "tapping" alot like headers sound, so figuring i had a leak began under the truck at the flange and worked towards the engine.
Found 1 missing bolt on the passenger side 2nd to the back bolt. Called dealer bought the $2.25 bolt and returned home only to find the old bolt didn't fall out it deteriorated in the block!!!
3 days have passed and now the back bolt next to it is missing. WTF
I can only imagine how difficult - time consuming this is going to be, possibly making a new target dealer engine look affordable?
Grrrrr in Garland,
D
I got real creative, got out the Dremel and ground down the small Quater sized cut wheel to the size of a Dime. then since the bolts were sheared off flush with the block i cut a slot across the bolt head being careful not to cut too deeply inot the block and turned the bolts out with a flat screwdriver.
WHEW, that could've been really nasty.
Thank God for small miracles.

cool, glad to here your able to fix it...
ARP exhaust manifold bolts wont do that... (break as easily)... if you go with headers, you'll have to remove the studs for clearance on the middle section of the e-manifold...
