Default Late Shifts

When I'm gettin on the highway I usually floor it and run out second gear then let off. At 4900 it usually shifts which is about 88-89 mph but recently its been missing third and bangin the limiter. Is this a common problem with 46re's or do I have to tear my tranny apart?

4900 rpm probably isn't the best thing for your motor or trans if long life is a goal. Adjusting the tv cable may put a band aid on the problem for a while but if this is something that has just started happening I would say you probably have a band slipping. Try to change the fluid & filter and adjust the bands. When changing the fluid look in the pan, lots of metal or friction material and its brobably not to far from an overhaul.

In some rare situations, when the engine/trans is slowly warming up the same thing happens to me. I'll give'r from a stop, it shifts once then at the end of the second gear it runs into the rev limiter and it's not pretty.. Some guy in traffic heard this and wanted to know if I had a manual [&:]. Happens when trans is cold and I'm really flooring it. I've since refrained from this at all costs. Do what ryans590 suggested with the TV cable. Until you find the cause I'd go easy on the pedal.
