hey shotts thats funny because when i replaced my plenum last week too my t stat broke. it got jammed open. i dont know if you know but you really dont have to take anything off to get it off. all you have to remove is the bracket that goes from the intake to the alternator and it has that stud on it to hold the intake. then just get a socket down there and get the bolts out. theres a damn tab on it that makes it a b*tch to get out but i got mine out by moving it around. then when i got it out i just cut the tab off. made it alot easier to re install. just have a bucket of water ready to wash the anti freeze off the motor quick just to be safe.

yea scott its been hella cold latley... i drive from leroy to rochester everynight for college and the ride gets really chilly!. lol

yea i figured id wait till the olympic break was done with... i guess i gotta get my *** in gear!

tani- i wonder why they jam up like that... i wonder if it has anything to do with the TQ spec on the t-stat housing.. saposed to be 200 inch lbs but i didnt knwo that at the time and just snugged them up..maybe i over snugged them

i cut that tab off last time i was in there so it should (hopefully) be easy to change out... i got all morning to do it .. gott be back home showered and ready to go to school by 430pm..so ifi get to work on it at 8am i should be good

yea also make sure that holes is on real tight before you put it in. mine wasnt tight and when the t stat opened it blew steam and coolant everywhere and it got on the belt and the belt started squilling. what temp did you get. i put a 190 in mine and i think im going to put i 180 or something in the summer.

180 like everyone else... shouldnt be having these type of problems though... im gonan be pissed if i get in there and nothing is wrong with that t-stat thats in now... theres gott abe though if my motor is runnin below 130 degs and i feel/hear coolant flowin in the upper rad hose straight from cold start up...i just hope it didnt break apart... now thatll be a nightmare!

hey guys,
Up here in northern Ont., 195 deg. is the norm for all season, I tow a 24 foot trailer all summer and the gage is always at the same spot summer or winter , water has always boiled at 212 deg., the tab removed on housing says "front" for a reason, fluctuating temp gage is usually ,if system has no other defects, lower quality therm, also give your unit 3 weeks and admire the coolant seep around housing base, our 318 have a water pump that really flow coolant, dont believe me just rev engine up and notice rite side htr hose swell up, thats normal, also now when an offshore therm is used ,the coolant flow overcomes the spring press and thus giving erratic temp gage cause all the hot stuff is in the rad now and the sender is cooled down, come to a stop, gages rises, take off and ooops the gage drops 3/8" suddenly, and those thermostat are readily accessable(lol)
for the fun of it get the 3.00$ aftermarket therm, and go to dealer and ask to see their therm & gskt, the weight difference alone, also compare the springs.

alright fellas... all i gotta say is WTF

this is the hypertech hyperstat tstat i got from summit when i finished up ordering the rest of my stuff...

how the hell did this happen? HAVE NO CLUE!!! got the tstat houseing off this morning and the stat was installed properlly...not upside down or anything... i have no clue how this could have happend...

the new one i put in... i drilled 2 SMALL holes to aid in air escape... helped out alot..and used sochas tip in reving the motor up while filling the rad up with coolant and that did the trick...i think i still got a VERY small air pocket or the coolant has just gotta take its time and get in every coolant jacket...the air blowing out of the heater is nice and cozy warm..not wicked hot like before... but understandable with a cooler tstat... the temp gauge doesnt move from aourn 180 to 185 (best guess..since its not clearley marked) and now i have the chance to adjust the fans accordingly... fans come on around 185 (when the tstat opens) and still arnt on for longer then 10 seconds..and are never on while im driving...

i was blown away on that POS i pulled out of there... i looked to see if it was stamped with "made in communist china" on it...

im gonna say im lucky though... that little silver post thats bent out and sticking out of the cage...that actually slides out of the movable cyclener... so im lucky it stayed put and didnt get sucked out and flowed to somewhere i couldnt get at...i looked it over and doesnt seam like its missing any parts.. i think i coulda fixed it and reinstalled it but obviously thats not a chance i wanna take...

oh...before anyone asks..it wasnt like the when i installed it...looked normal and functional... i even checked it over just for kickes before it went it... .

this is a pic of how that little post comes out... just used my fingers and slid it out..had kind of a suction to it.. but i came right out with no problems... pretty lucky that little post isnt floating around my coolant system

lol, it'll be interesting to hear your excitment after the mods to the intake... it takes a while to get it nice ans shiney. one tip... buy lots of cuttoff wheels... oh, and dont drink any coffee that morning... you need a steady hand. There are several pics on pages 4 & 5 of my cardomain site if you need to see any for reference...

How much are you going to cut?

How much was the t-stat from hypertech? also, how big were the holes you drilled? one should be enough... I had 2 in one t-stat I had on my jeep and it kept throwing a code saying the CT didnt reach it's op temp in a certain period of time. Hope you dont have that...
