Default advise on dual setup with pacesetter LTs

I have some money together to buy the exhaust to finish out my truck. Here's what I have:

97 Ram SS/T (thats a short bed reg cab)
408 stroker motor
Magnum R/T heads 2.02 inch intakes
Big cam
M1 intake and ported throttle body
2400 Stall and full APS trans
KRC cam-cal computer flash - set to shift at 6000 rpm
3.92 gears
255 lph fuel pump, electric fans

The exhaust is still the old JBA headers and the stock single 2.5" exhaust back (minus the stopped up cat that I had to hollow out) It needs help. I am thinking of the following, I want to know what peoples experiance is if someone has done this.

Pacesetter long tubes 1 3/4 inch primary, 3 inch collectors. Using their Y pipe that they sell, but cutting the Y out and welding in a magnaflow X from Summit. Extend it back about 2 feet and have two 3" dynomax bullet mufflers (big glasspacks) and dumps. I would like to find this prefabed, but I cant seem to find anyone who sells it. i would even consider a single if the Y came out as a 4" pipe and then run diesel exhaust out the back. I am in the middle of a move when I get back to the states and my welder is packed up with my tools, so I will have to try and find a muffler shop that can help me out on this.

Is the ceramic coating worth the extra $$ for on the pacesetters? Are they good headers?

is this truck stricly drag? or is it also yourDD? with that extent of mods i wouldnt have a clue what the exhaust is best your setup... normal or lightly modded 360's run outstanding on 2.25 duals...

i think you and RM_indy need to have a chitchat.... with them mods he'd be the guy to talk to...

I'll have to put up some pictures when I get back home. I am in Iraq right now. I used to be on the DTO a lot, I didnt even know about this board, but I found it on the google. I cant get onto DTO here, it is blocked for some reason.

The truck is actually one of my daily drivers. I have this and a '91 5.0 that makes less hp, but will run circles around the truck. Also, I have a ZRX 1100 and my wife drives and 05 quad cab Ram with the 4.7. I have Mississippi plates on it right now, but I dont know for sure where I'll be living when I get back. I have kind of narrowed my job search down to SC, MS and AL although I may end up back in eastern NC where my family is from depending on what happens.

I dont want to live in NC, because there is no way this thing will pass emmissions. I wanted to start drag racing it soon, I have owned it since I bought it new in '97.

If anyone has tried the pacesetter "quicktrip" headers, I'd like to know how they work. KRC is selling them and acts like they are good to go. Summit is selling them too, just a lot cheaper. I have also looked at the GS Motorsports headers, but they are very expensinve. I am concerned with the bad reputation I have heard about pacesetter, but I have seen some crappy stuff put out by hooker and other big names before too.

Ok, I guess I'll be the guinea pig here. This is what I got from Summit. The plan is to cut off the Y part of the Y pipe and replace it with the X. I'll get some 3 inch pipe from autozone and turndowns and have the two dyonmax bullets after the X, then turndowns under the truck. Who wants to bet how loud this will be ha hah.

Nice looking setup. I bet it will be hella loud. But I was wondering, will there be enough backpressure on it??

Honestly, I think this backpressure stuff is overrated. At the track you never see guys with open headers worring about it and this is not a 4x4... I have almost the same setup (except 2.5 inch) on the mustang and I have pulled the front left tire in the air with it. I figure between the cubes, gear and stall, low end tourqe is not a huge concern.

well yea..with a 408 worked over like yours id could see you opening that exhaust pretty wide and still have good results... regardless any EFI requires certain amount of backpressure to work effeciently... expecially with low end tq which gets that big hause off the line faster

iraq huh? i was in the sh*t hole for 7 months.. where ya at? i understand if you cant say...they moniter internet trafic alot ... what branch are ya in? i spent 4yrs and 4mo's in the Marines.

Yeh, right now it has more backpressue then it can handle. Its all going through the stock single pipe which is 2.5 inches. It pulls like a diesel but it doesnt rev up like it should above 4500 rpm. I'm a Marine. Its probably much nicer here now then when you came.

oh that 408 doesnt need that much backpressure.. im almost postive it works like that in ratio,,bigger engine more pipe you can have(diameter) well ooorah! more then likley it has prolly settled down since ive been there... either way just come back safe your Ram needs ya!!!!!!!!
