Default Another tire size question

Ok I bought a 98 Ram 1500 4x4 (5.9L) and it came with 285/75/R16 Tires on the stock rims... now the outer edges of the tires have become really worn and I am just wondering if they are too wide for the rims or if I have alignment issues?

If it is just the outer edges and the rears arn't wearing oddly I'd say you have an alignment issue. Make sure you don't have any worn front end parts before taking it to a good shop.

here could be anouther cause to your tire ware CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESURE if you alredy have ignor this

What's Happening
The tread is not making flat contact with the highway. The outer portions of the tread are carrying most of the load because the tire is underinflated for the load.

Probable Causes
- inflation pressure and load

Corrective Action
Refer to tire manufacturer's load and inflation table for recommended inflation pressure at the speeds the tire will operate. Establish a fleet standard inflation and maintain tire inflation to fleet standard.

I just had my tires rotated a couple weeks ago and had the shop make sure they were all at the correct pressure.

My biggest question was just if the tires are too wide for the rims because that is what one of the guys at the shop suggested the problem might be.

id think if it was because it was too wide it would be waring more on the inside

That's a very good point, or at least as much on each side but it seems to be concentrated to the outer edge... that leads me to believe I need an alignment

yah id agree with that too especially if its more on the outter edge here is something on outter edge ware:

One-Sided Wear
What's Happening
This tire is worn from corrective steering due to vehicle thrust (rear axle misalignment), cocked (toe in or out), tilted (camber) or the axle is bending due to overloading.

Probable Causes
- vehicle misalignment
- overloaded axles

Corrective Action
Steer Tires
- If one-sided wear is on the inside of one steer tire and the outside of the other steer tire, the cause is rear axle misalignment. Correct alignment.
- If one-sided wear is on the outside of both steer tires, the cause is either toe in or camber. Check both and correct.
- If one-sided wear is on the inside of both steer tires, the cause is either toe out, camber or overloaded axles. Check and correct toe and camber settings. Check load specifications on the axle and keep loads within specs.
