Default 2001 2x4 Ram stock height, tire and wheel fitment ?'s

I'm looking for examples of what size rims and tires people with 2 wheel drive stock ride height Rams have stuffed under their rides. I'm looking for a nice setup that I won't have any rubbing issues with.
From looking around, it seems that their is not much of a difference in price between 17" and 18" rims and tires anymore. I plan to run one of those sizes unless someone can show me that 20's aren't much more(doubtful and I'm not the bling type anyway). What width of rim and what backspacing/offset do I want? The rims I'm considering come in 8" and 9" width with 4.5" or 4.75" b.s. respectively. Would these work with say a 285/60r17 or 285/55r18 (30.4" tall) tire? Should I go taller or smaller, wider or narrower? I'm just looking for some overall general answers, some opinions, and some examples.
Thanks.
