Wow, thanks guys that was all the info I needed

I am running a Kenwood 8101-D monoblock amp (says 1000 watts but I'm guessing it's more like 600)

agree...4 gauge is fine... chance are youll wont use all 1000 watts... in the event you do it will only be a spike and for a short period of time... have you considerd running a stiffening cap? they help out alot with the power supply drops when the bass hits a wicked low note... general rule is 1 farad for every 500 wats.. thats playin it safe.. . 1.5 farrad would do you fine.. a 2 would do you great

i just removed my seat and ran them under the carpet. and came through the fire wall under the dash.

Come on now....dont tell him to get a cap[:@] Even then its 1 farad for every 1000 watts.
400 Watts RMS x 1 @ 2 ohms
200 Watts RMS x 1 @ 4 ohms
1000 Watts Maximum Output Power
That amp wont ever push 1000 watts not even for peak.

still not 1000 watts though

without a cap i was burning through 2 altenators a year on average, since i bought my cap i have not had to replace a single altenator. they are well worth the extra money.

You should have got a new alt not a cap. I mean if they work for ya cool. You should jst upgrade the rest of your your electrical first, bcuz once ur cap gets drained that just another thing for your alt to try and re-charge.

I didnt see that it was 1 ohm stable.....or are you just running it with that load

get a KENETIC battery for power--1600 cranking amps, no need for a capacitor, its qick discharge ancharging cells cover all the power you need for professional and shade tree stereos
