Default Exhaust Headers.

I think Im cooking my exhaust headers right at the engine.. the pipes look like overheated metal all the way down to where my new dual exhaust starts., and I'm wondering what could be causing this since my temperature gauge doesnt tell me I'm overheating, and I'm not going through an essessive amount of Radiator fluid.

is this normal, or should I be worried and get the headers replaced with highflow highperformance?... I'd do this anyways.. but if its serious I'd do it sooner.

I'm not entirely mechanically inclinded but I'm learning, so any help is greatful.

If I remember I'll try to snap a couple pictures tomorrow or when I can.

also, I'm just about at my 100,000km service,.. do you recommend I put synthetic into her? Money is no object on this truck.

what kind of headers? not assuming but if they are cheepys then that may be a normal situation...
headers normally run a bit hotter at surface temp then stocker manifolds... but the heat your describing doesnt add up

on the other hand .. headers getting that hot would indicate to me that you got a clogged up cat.. assuming its the oem cat and has never been serviced/swapped out

these cats have been notrious for clogging up and causing extreme heat buildup in the heads and are suspect to the head cracking and misfire problems these magnums are having

id get your cat checked out all sorts of ASAP... if you have, or access to a temp gun you can take temp readings on your cat... when the truck is up to normal op temp... shoot the inlet and the outlet temps of the cat.. if the outlet temp is higher then the inlet then its working fine .. if the inlet temp is hotter then the outlet temp that would indicate a clog and needs SERIOUS and imediate attention to prevent further damage...

check out the sticky in the top of the forum... mentions the problems with the cats and possible warrenty if it covers your year etc etc

this is a good place to start goodluck

As Far as I can tell, they are stock headers.

I have no cats on. when I got my dual exhaust, they were removed.

im confused... stock headers? or your implying you have the stock exhaust manifolds ? if you have not cats and were removed i wouldnt really worry about it..unless some a$$ stuff some rags up your tail pipe to clog it up but you would have noticed that...
