Default another bad cat

Well the cat on my 01 is plugged up. Ordered a magnaflow universal. Not to bad for $67.00 should see it in a couple of days. Will post the results(milage, power) after the install. On the up side I got 121,000 miles out of the oe converter. must have gotten lucky.

clamps suck! leaks and rattles are all you get. I will weld the sucker in there. shouldn't be that bad, just cut out the old and slip in the new and burn away.

.
Did you happen to spot the "Chrylser admits Catalytic converters bad 1996-2001" thread in the 'Top' section of this forum? Could save some money having the DC replace it on their dime. Unless you'd prefer a Hi-flow aftermarket.

from the dodge ram faq thred at the top of the 2gen page

Catalytic Converter:
The best way to test the cat is to have someone in the cab rev the motor to about 2000 or 2500 rpm's and put a temp gun on the input and output of the cat. the output should be around 50 deg hotter than the input for proper cat operation. if the temps are the same, the cat is not working, if the input temp is high and the output temp is low, you have a plugged cat and you should have it swapped out immediately.

shocker, I got my cat at CarQuest. I work there. I know your thinking that why I got it so cheap, but that is the regular over the counter price. Most CarQuest stores are also Arrow Speed equipment dealers. Arrow Speed has pretty good prices and service. As far as having Chrysler replace it. I'd rather spend the coins and get a high flow. Besides I showed the letter about the bad cats to my dealer and the service manager said that wasn't an offical chrysler recall and untill he got something from Dodge I was out of luck.
