You will have to remove the drive shaft to do this, but after you remove the straps over the u-joints, it just slips out of the tranny. But that is all I can tell you.

You take the clip off and beat it out. I've never had a U-joint that HASN'T came off like that. Sometimes they have caps, but you still have to beat them out Or if you're lucky enough, you can press them out if you have access to the right equipment.

And as stated, you have to remove the shaft to do this

Check out the service manual download in the Merry Christmas thread It's chapter 3 in the manual...Differential & Driveline

Yeah taking out the drive shaft is the first priority then the second and easy way to take out the U-joint is to put the shaft into a vice and have a big C clam with a hole in the one clamp and and take out your clips and then put the C clamp on it and tighten it down and the join should pop free and then you can take it out.

When I had to do that to my ranger I took it to a shop and he put it ontop of a vice and used a rubber mallot and the caps came off and did the same thing to put the new u-joint back on. took him about 10-15 min to do both u-joints and get the parts out of the stock room.
