Default 2000 engine 1994 truck

I put the motor and transmission from a 2000 ram into my 1994 truck. Wiring harnesses don't match. I spliced all the same colors together but he truck won't idle right and dies when I put it in gear. Any ideas. I don't think a engine wiring harness from a 94 will make the 2000 engine run. My 94 had a V6 with a 5spd. The 2000 engine is a 5.9 with an auto tranny. HELP!!!!!

Did you get the computer for the 5.9 too or is the comp still from your V6? That could be the problem.

That won't work with his truck without some modifications. Then again, it's hard to say what would work with the harness being spliced. Some of the colors may have changed between 94 and 2000. [>:]

What you NEED (or needed in the first place) is a PCM from a 94 5.9 Auto, wiring harness from a 94 5.9, and a set of engine sensors from a 94 5.9 But even that might not fix your issues, since I have no clue what you spliced on your harness.

I'm not sure how you'd get the transmission to function properly with the old PCM, as the 46RE wasn't around in 94. They used the 46RH. Finding one of those would have also avoided problems.

You definitely picked the wrong year for your swap

I also got the pcm from the 2000. I spliced the 2000 engine harness and plugged in the same colors in the 94 harness. Will a 94 engine harness and pcm work with my 2000 engine? Is there no way I can make the 2000 engine harness work with my 94 harness?

There is a way to get the 2000 harness to MAYBE work, but you'll need a wiring diagram from 94 and 00 to make sure the right wires are spliced together. As I said before, the color coding could have changed between those years. The fact that it's not idling correctly and dying when you put it in gear makes me think that something isn't wired properly.

The 94 harness and PCM will work with your engine, but you have to replace the engine sensors as well. There's nothing about the engine that makes it specific to any year EXCEPT for the sensors. The other issue with the 94 electronics is that the transmission you chose to use (from 2000) won't work with it.

you know what would prolly have been easier? taken the entire wire harness out of the 2000 and replaced it into your 94...and when i say entire... i mean every single wire thats in the truck...

so pretty much you would have an entire 2000 dodge ram engine tranny and electrical system in a 94 body...

sounds like ALOT of work.. and it is... but it takes the guess work out

Surely a knowledgeable mechanic with both wiring diagrams (94 & 2000) should be able to figure everything out right?
