Thanks for everyone's input. Does anyone have any opinions on my other questions? Bilsteins and wider tires, a good idea? Will a new steering dampner help my steering issues?

I just picked up a 99 Ram with 285's on it. It will change your speedo accuracy. I drove back with a gps and it was about 5 mphs off. I was going faster than the speedo registered. I am planning on changing to the stock 245's when these need replacing. Im not sure whats going on with your steering, sorry.

I can't imagine hitting the bump stops. I've had mine in the air before it hit hard.

A wide tire looks better and for the beach is great. The Dunlops were fatter than these.
The only draw backs I've had with wider tires are;
The ruts in the road will get your attention more with a wide tire. Will follow a rut/groove. I don't think you are going as wide as mine though.
Mine will no longer fit through a drive through car wash. The rims offset also kick them out some. Height is another issue.
The bank drive through leaves me about 2" on each side between curbs. Seems like it anyway.
