Death Wobble update
First off I want to thank everyone who gave me great advise and the link to the old Death Wobble post.I have found my problem and have fixed it. The issue is solved. I found when I would get under the front end and have my wife move the stearing back and fourth that my PIPMAN ARM ball joint was on its very last leg. Ihad alot of play in the stearing. $47 was all it cost and a little time.In my case the thing had been bad for quite some time, and was very hard to get off. ( basicly if you have to change one, Using an empact wrench you take the bolt at the gear box off, remove the carter pin from the bolt at the cross link, then lossen that bolt. I used a ball joint puller, but you can hit the cross link with a hammer to rattel the pipman arm loose. use the ball joint puller to pull the arm away from the gear box. Once removed attach the the new arm to the gear box first, make sue that your stearing wheel is straight in truck. adjust the wheels to line the arm up with the cross link, after in place tighten with an empact to pull the ball joint down tight. Replace grease fitting and grease her up.)
i also have alot of play in my steering, maybe i have the same problem.
did you have so much free play that you almost have to swerve back and forth a bit at speed to stay straight? thats what mines like now. when stopped, there's like an eighth of a turn of free play.
thanks
