I would recomend for anybody to replace it too. Theres nothing fancy, just taking bolts off. Hardrest part for most people will probably getting the fan off, and getting the crank bold off, and getting the harmonic sync off. You need a puller to get the sync off, I used a bolt style puller. If you can get those 3 things off the rest is REALLY easy.

Like I said there was more slop then that pic shows, but I dunno if it was as bad yours Steve! I didn't get to do the intake due to lack of time, and next week I'm thinking about doing it just here at my house. Only problem is I won;t have anywhere to cut the intake, I would go back to that school but they're on Spring Break[&:] I'm debating to just do it later so I can go in there and cut it up with the right tools.

I used the brand Advanced Auto had, it was called S.A. Gear. I got their double roller chain. I noticed quite a bit of power back from it.

Gahhhh! I just got home from work, its raining so I noticed a rainbow runing down the driveway. Sure enough theres a huge puddle of oil under my car from last night, and as I was looking at that 2 more drops fell [:@]

So I have to rip it back all the way down and replace the gasket!!! I'm kinda disappointed I screwd something so simple up

where was the oil coming from? if it's the front seal you should be able to yank off the balancer and change the seal w/o ripping it apart again...

I can't tell if its the cover or the crank seal But the Fel-Pro kit I got came with a new crank seal and we put it on. So either the cover gasket is screwed up, the crank seal got put in wrong or was bad from the start, or the actual oil pan gasket is screwed up. God I hope its not the oil pan gasket. Don;t have you have move the entire engine to get the oil pan off?

Grrrrrr Friday I'm gonna do that real quick here at my house. I'm thinking about 4 hours to rip it down and put it back since I know how to do it now and its still fresh in my head.

Sometimes you can unbolt the motor mounts and jack the motor enough to wiggle the pan gasket around the pan without removing it. Takes a little finess.

A thought for the plastic coating on the timing chains. If you wait until most of the plastic is gone and the teeth are wearing down, where do you think all the pieces went..... The pieces get in the oil pump pickup, which has a cover that holds them like your shirt pocket.
Trust me, I waited on another engine until it started jumping timing. Replaced it and my friend told me to drop the oil pan. Was going on a trip and didn't have time. Six hours from home the oil pump lost flow on a holiday weekend. Long story short. I bought a $300 car to get home...

Done...Arg 5 hours start to finish and by finish I mean coolant toped off and test driving.

When I put it in the first time I tore the oil pan gakset...instead of replacing is I RTV'd the living daylights out of it. Right way? Probably not. Easy way that works? Yup

No leaks yet.

And oh yeah, I FOUND A MUD PIT WHEN TEST DRIVING!!! I got excited a went throuhg a few times...not much mud in the middle of winter [:'(]
