Is the price for a Hypertech reprogramer worth it? If buying used and if the seller doesnt know if it is Vin locked, is it hard to unlock? Where do I look to see if someone installed a chip on my truck???

I think to unock it, you have to have it plugged in to the truck that it has programmed.

If the guy doesn't know I would stay away becuase that means it probably is and he doesn't want to say it.

Here is a link to a site where you can get a Hypertech for $284. http://www.truckaddons.com/Catalog/s...t;KW=hypertech
Worth it? OH YEAH. Made a big difference on mine. You can re use it - BUT it has to be plugged in to the original vehicle it was used on, and that vehicle has to be put back to stock configuration. Then you can use it on another vehicle. So - if you are trying to buy a used one make sure it was put back to stock, better yet, watch the guy do it to make sure. The programmer is built like this to ensure that someone doesn't buy 1 and use it on 100 trucks. I ordered mine new from the above link for $284 and free shipping. Had it in less than a week.

I have gained about 1 mpg since the install of the Hypertech. It runs so much better however that even if it didn't get better mileage it would still be worth it.

No. But if you take the truck for service you need to restore it to stock program. The dealer diagnostic comp will not be able to read the performance program. The Hypertech is very easy to reset to stock. After you get it worked on you can put the perf. program back in.
