Default ATF +4, great stuff

I am posting this only as info and just perhaps it could help someone else.
I recently purchased a '99 Ram, 5.9, 4x4, 106K miles, excellent condition....cept for a small crack it has developed in the dash and that the transmission was rebuilt 60 days prior to me getting it. I contacted the original owner (only one) and found out who rebuilt it.......good reputable local guys, got the reciept with all the stuff they did to it. Looks like a good rebuild....however I experienced TC shutter when it was locked up around 50 MPH and mildly accelerating. Also a wierd groan in reverse when first started on a cool morning.
In my efforts to get everything where I wanted it.....changing and upgrading fluids.....I had the complete Trans system evacuated, replaced the filter and filled with ATF +4 at the dealer. I watched them do it....and guess what............no more groan and the shutter is gone.....god knows what the tranny place put in it after the rebuild...but it is like new now. The dealer also reccomended ATF +4 in the Transfer case, did that too. Yeah, it was a few hundred $ but better than a few thousand for a new tranny......
It is very nice to have something perform as advertised.....by the way, the shutter went away almost immedialty. The reverse groan was gone the following morning.
I will be pulling a 5000 LB boat all over Fla with it so I had the Synthetic 75-140 put in the rear also......although it has the tow package and the aux tranny cooler I by passed the radiator cooler and added a really big after market cooler in series with the factory aux cooler and a tranny temp gauge. Hopefully it will last a while.

ATF+4 is a mopar product..liscences to other companys to manufacture and sell.. its a nice fluid... its been know for some non dodge tranny guys (like a independant trany shop) to put in ATF+3 witch isnt good for our trannys.. mainly b/c it has a smaller amount of the friction addative much like the traclock rear end requires... some shops compensate for that with adding the mopar tranny additive... i have a feeling the tranny shop put ATF+3 in my tranny... as soon as the money comes in .. im gonna drain and refill both t-case and tranny .. and replace the filter.. this tranny i got is only 2 weeks old brand new.. so im allowing some break in time for it.. i asked the tech what he put in the tranny and he even said ATF+3 but then cought himself and told me he put the mopar trany additive in it...regardless as soon as i move into my new apt im gonna swap the fluid

Just a little add on, yes the atf+4 is very good fluid for the trans, there is no reason to run it in you t-case. Most all of the 1/2 ton rams have a 231hd new venture t-case. There are no clutch packs or bands in this t-case. GM and Ford both use the same case and recommend regular atf. The atf+4 will do a great job in the t-case but the extra expense is not needed.
