ordered one? just get it from Napa... you should have no problems finding one.

Just remember to drill a small bleed hole in it before the install.

how much do they go for? and if you drill a hole in the t-stat wont it leak?? the hypertech was alright i guess.. on 87 octane it made my truck ping like crazy so i upped it to 93 octane and started running that.. the diffrence is noticable.. pulls alot smoother and quicker now.. before i'd only feel the truck pull around 2500 - 3000 rpms now its just steady.. also with the computer adjusted for my tires i get anywhere from 310 - 340 mile to the tank.. i was happy about then when i was only getting 240 at start!

the hole in the t-stat is there to allow air to get past the stat. that way you never have any issues when filling up the cooling system. a real small hole is all that is needed. i've been doing it for years and the only time i had a problem was when the hole was too big... took longer to heat up which threw a code.

hmm, do you put the hole off to the side of the plunger in the Tstat or directly in the center?

drill the hole in the diapram, the part that opens and closes... all your doing is creating a path to allow the air to bleed past the t-stat on fillup.

Most now come with a bleeder hole, or at least the ones from autozone do. Like I said before the gains outweight the negatives, I havent seen any decrease in MPG, but it does run better especially in the summer, and plenty of heat in the winter, it was 0 for days here and I still had comfortable heat.

Hey everyone, great forums I have recently found. I have a 2000 Ram Quad Cab Sport 4x4 5.9L. Finally got her paid off, and trying to “tune” her up a little.

I have been real curious about the 180* thermostat myself, and thinking about putting one in, but still not sure why or if I “need to”. All I have on my truck so far is Flows exhaust, and I just ordered the Fastman 52, and the hypertech PP III. So I am just trying to determine if I need to put in the thermostat or not, and if so, what do you like better, brand wise? I was looking at getting a Stant Thermostat Having never done this before, I would prefer not to have to drill anything, so if you know of a brand that has a bleeder hole already that is good quality, I would like to hear about it.

when you get the hypertech programmer they recommend to get a low temp stat with it.. when you get more power threw the hypertech.. it sometimes brings back the pinging.. a low temp stat is suppose to help reduce detonation in your cylinders from being to hot. i just got mine put in and havent heard any ping yet! i ordered mine threw truckaddons.com i beleive.. 9.95 and free shipping. hypertech makes thermostats (thats the one i bought)
