ive used that stuff from permatex.. still a WEEEE bit hazy but it sure cleaned up that brake parts cleaner i sprayed on the headlight on accident.. stuff works really well.. and for 15 bux a kit .. cant beat it!! one kit per headlight i would suggest.. the sandpaper isnt if best quality..

also.. use a block or some kind of implement to apply good pressure while wetsanding.. helps it go a bit faster..

edit::: damnit.. SSOO didnt see the date of the original post.. oh well

3M Rubbing compound is what I used. I was too scared to use it with anything mechanical for fear that I would somehow screw them up. So I just used the rubbing compound by hand and a lot of elbow grease.

Mine were really bad before I used the rubbing compound and now they look new. Take your time and the end result will be worth it or you could go buy new ones. A little effort and a bottle of rubbing compound will work, or spend alot of money on new ones ..........your choice.

My '94 Grand Cherokee had the same problem. They were so cloudy I could not see the bulbs inside. I used Meguiars PlastXâ„¢. It was less than $7 at Advance Auto. I applied the polish and then I used a hand grinder (Dremel type) with a polishing tip to buff it. But a drill or any high polisher with a soft pad will do. I did small 3" or 4" patches at a time. Once it was clean and dry I applied a good car polish to protect it from UV ray damage and they sparkled like diamonds.

Whitening toothpaste has very fine aluminum oxide polishing compound in it.

I have used toothpaste on a green Scotch Brite pad by hand,
followed by toothpaste on a sponge by hand.

This works slowly on getting the yellow off the headlights, but you have less chance of messing up by gouging too deep with rubbing compound.

I was checking out ebay and found stock headlights for $65 plus like $20'ish for shipping. Not a bad deal if you ask me. You should check it out.

NOVUS products has a 3 step polish. Work EXTREMELY well with a mini buffer. Sears, Dremmel, etc.

Good luck.
