Basically, you run the colder plug to compensate for the excessive heat caused by carbon build-up, or just to make a little more power. If the plug runs too cold it will not burn off stuff like un-burnt fuel, oil, carbon, etc. When all of this stuff builds up over time (it can happen slowly or very quickly), it fouls the plug. If you run plugs that are colder than stock, just pull two or three after a few hundred miles and look at them.

Ok, I DO drive 100% in town short trips, maybe 3-5 miles at a time, to and from work..... thats about it, if going out for dinner or something ,its the same thing.... am CONSIDERING platinum plugs as I keep hearing they are good for that, something about they self clean faster after startup or something... I have the 5.9, so not TOO concerned with loosing a HP or two....
I would SERIOUSLY RECONSIDER going with platinum plugs....I tried them and LOST gas mileage. BOSCH sucks! There are a number of people on this forum that have tried the high-dollar platinum plugs - and I can't think of one person that had anything good to say about them. Stick with the proven Autolites or Champion Truck Plugs.....

i run the champion truck plugs but will sooon be switched out for asome autolite 3923's since the MSD 6A box is chewin up the plugs at a faster rate. before the MSD system the champion plugs are really nice for all around use for the truck,,, offroading, DD, little bit of racin. but if you start to have pinging problems and dotn fix the main cause (leaky plenum) then the carbon build up with start to get worse and worse and before you know it no matter what you do it will ping and ping untill you take off the heads and clean the pistions and the cumbustion chambers (or use seafoam)

Autolite makes a 3923 in double platinum. Bosch does suck, especially those multi-electrode plugs. Way back when I was in denial about the plenum thing, and was trying to solve my pre-detonation problem with plugs, wires, etc. , I put a set of the plus 4's in and the motor pinged twice as bad.

They should call those bosch plus 4's, minus 4 beause they will decrease your performance by 4 times lol. I think anything bosch is junk. Their spark plug wires are almost as much as a good performance set. Their oil filters are no different from the 3 dollar cheaper STP brand, the 02 sensors are junk and unless you drive some high-end foriegn car that came from the factory with bosch plugs in it the spark plugs aren't good for anything.

Have you seen the prices on those things too? $5.99 a plug at auto zone.......damn.

mopowar is correct, if it wont run on stock plugs, you are masking a carbon buildup problem. if the tune-up parts are replaced as dodge says, and you still have a problem, then a combustion chamber cleaning and or plenum gasket will let it run proper on stock plugs.
