thanks for the props guys

Im just trying to save this guy some time and money. Im not saying that theres nothing wrong with his truck, there very well could be (its a Dodge). But I would do more research before I started throwing things at it

dont know if its been coverd but putting a timing light on the number one plug wire and flash the timing marker on the damper could let you know if the timing is that bad... but then again ive seen timing chaings (on 4bangers) stretched completley and still poped good timing flashes... im gonna try it on mine to see if the timing is off at all... but then again if the timing chain is stretched enough to give you poor performance then it should still indicate on the damper when you flash it that its been retarded.

i have a 5.2 with a manual.. i raced my friend in his 99 1500 4x4 OFFROAD edition.. with the 5.2.. which i believe has 4.10 gears.. and my 1500 ram steady pulled from him and i have 3.55's.. that was before the k&n replacement filter and hypertech programmer running on 93 octane

But a 318 auto in anything other than a reg cab short bed 4x2 is worthless.

well i agree you have some good info here but i wouldn't go as far to say there worthless i have a 318 in my extended cab short box 4x4 and i have no problems with it. i don't tow with it and seldom haul much weight in the box its a good little motor for what i use it for and i know there are outers here that feel the same way... you might wanna try one out they may surprise you

i agree with ryans590.......

its not a race truck, but its not exactly a slug either. itll get up and go when you need it to. ive had plenty of times where i WISHED i had more power, but never had a moment where i NEEDED more power.

but at the same time i still wish i had a manual tranny sometimes

I have one in my truck and the only thing that suprises me is that I cant believe that Chrysler would release an under powered truck
. Its ok for a grocery getter but it is way to small for a 4 wheeling, towing ect.

well thats maby something you should have thought have before bulding it up, i agree with the fact its a good DD but not for towing heavy wheeling ect, but motor size and what your gonna use it for is something you gotta consider when you get the truck rathetr than trying to say its chryslers fault, thats why there is the option for motor size and sounds like you shoulda went with a 360 or a V10 or maby even a diesel for your needs
