Making 4x2 into 4x4?
Ok, I've heard of a 4x4 conversion for Chevys (myself owning a chevy in the past) and heard that doing so will make the ride really uncomfortable...
My question is, is it possible to convert my dodge 4x2 into a 4x4? I know it sounds dumb, but i could only afford the 4x2 at the time and am itching for a 4wd...
Any problems in doing this (ex: rough *** ride, parts not fitting properly)? Would i need to change the transmission or just add a transfer case? Shorten driveshaft? Anyone ever done this?
Oh yeah, heres the information about my truck from the build sheet that was sent to me:

Easiest way is to buy a 4x4 and trade you 2wd in,, second easiest is to find a rolled 4x4, (make sure the frame is not tweaked) and put your good body over on it. 3rd is the hardest, but yes it can be done wont change the ride no more then what a stock dodge 4x4 is. You will still need to find a donor truck, prefered close to your year. But most 2wd bodies and frames are set up from the factory to be either a 2wd or 4wd. Saves money for them. They will be cut out holes in all the right places, your factory 2wd frame will have the places to bolt on the 4X4 suspention. YES there will be welding and cuting involved. There will be wiring to be done also.
In formost, this is not and easy task, it can be done. So choice is up to you if you want to undertake it and deal with the time your truck will be down.

Anything is possible, and if your one of those people who love to tinker, fab stuff up, and think "outside" the box, it'd be a really fun project to do!
Sure it'd be a PITA and take alot of time and brainstorming, but it would be cool to do!
The others might be right though, could be much cheaper to actually sell and buy a 4x4.
Off the top of my head here what I can think of, but there would be alot more stuff.
Axle complete with control arms, coils, coil towers, trac bar, ect.
Steering box
Front drive shaft
T-case
Shorter rear drive shaft
Vacuum system for front axle (or just posi-loc it)
PCM from 4x4 same year as yours
Thats just stuff I thought of off the top of my head, would be fun though!!!

Thanks for the input, this is exactly the type response i was looking for...
I think I'll stick with the 4x2, still got 11k in payments =(
I'll eventually have a 4x4
