Default Fuses

Got 2 problems at hand. 1 is I have a 4wheel drive light that is staying on. I believe that the fuse for it is blown and I don't have a diagram of the fuses. Can anyone help? 2nd problem is that the check engine light is on. I hooked up a diagnostics machine to it and didn't get any kind of code for either the engine or the tranny. I have heard that if your fuel cap isn't on tight that can make the light go on is that true? Or could the battery or alternator make the light go on? By the way my truck is a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9L 360 engine.

stupid question but i gotta ask... have you made sure yout 4X4 shifter is in the right pos? make sure you got the shifter out of 4X .. if it is out of 4X and in N ( i think.. or 2X whatever it is... havnt looked at that shifter in a while lol) then you might have a bad vacume for the CAD upfront... or your shafts may be partially engaged... im not positve on how the CAD works..but i know the light runs off the sensor on the axle instead of what the shifter is... so if it is OUT of 4X4 (meaning the shifter for the 4X is pushed forward out of 4X) then you might have a bad sensor in the CAD box on the axle... id ont think a bad fuze will pop the 4X light... if anything a bad fuze wont let the 4Xcome on..infact i dont think there is a fuze for the 4X system

your CEL is on and didnt get codes from the puter? thats odd... try resesting the PCM.. disconnect the neg bat term and turn the key to start for 20 seconds and release it .. hook up the neg bat cable and check it... your correct... if the fuel cap isnt on tight or doesnt have a good seal round it itll throw a vacume code... no biggy jus tneeds to be tightned and the cel reset

hope this helps..come back if you still have problems!

ohyea WELCOME TO DF!

Did the Second Diagnostics test today and found out that it was the O2 sensor setting it off. Thanks for the help.

Just after my ramzilla trans upgrade this happened to me---I first thought transfe case went bad, then thought mybe the vac seals on the front axle----ended up being the vacume line from the transfer case to the axle was resting up against my y pipe and melted shut----I simply cut the melted section out ans sliped a section of neoprene hose over each end of the vacume line splicing them back together, rerouted the line out of the way and it has not happened again-----I would check you line before anything else.....good luck and hope this helps....

I had the sensor on the axle go bad couple of years ago. It did the opposite though, no 4X light when it was actually locked in. Good area to start looking.
