driving home last night from school ,, my eyes glued to my fuel guage and my trip meter (like always lol) i had an appiffeny .. ever since ive owned the truck and figuring out my own mileage ive been dividing my milieag that i get on my trip meter into my size of my tank... 26 gallons...like most people do... i was thinking to myself... when the hell do i ever use ALL of the 26 gallons of gas? mainly b/c i fill up from E (gas light on) to bove F (packed jam full of fuel) and i trip it like that. and i realized something..ive never bought a full tank of gas before...ive always bought between 20 to 22 gallons of gas as apposed to the 26 gallon capacity (b/c i fill up as SOON as my fuel light comes on) so i figured ive been figuring my mileage all wrong...what i should be doing is dividing it by the amount of gallons that iput back into the truck... so say i drive 320 miles from jammed pack full tank until the gas light comes on,,, and then i go straight to the next gas station and fill back up ... i fill itup untill the gas nozzle clicks itself...then i wait a few seconds.. rock the truck a little bit to settle the gas tank and i keep jamming and jamming more fuel into it untill it cant hold anymore... and i realized im only buying/filling up with between 20 to 22 gallons of gas.. (normally 22 gallons) so what i should be dividing 320 miles into is the 22 gallons that i just filled up with as apposed to my 26 gallon capacity of my tank... this makes sense right? this is what comes out

320 miles divided into 26 gallons is 12.3 still pretty good mileage for a dodge ram 5.9L

now i do it the RIGHT way.. 320 miles divided into 22 gallons is 14.5 MPG... KICK ****!!!!!!!!!!!

this makes sense right? or am i just being overzelous .. either way im happy with 12.3 but **** im REALLY happy with 14.5!!!! i guess the only real way to make sure this is accurate is carry a gas can of fuel and run the truck complettly dry and see if the numbers match

anyway.. what doy ouguys think??? maybe everyone has been doing htis for a while and im the only retard that has been doing it wrong.. lol

i've been doing that same thing.. i'd fill it all the way up to the top and drive it till the gas light comes on.. and then some more.. but why are these tanks rated for 26 when 22 will fill it up? when the gas light comes on you have 4 gallons left?? thats like a good 50 more miles
