Question on trailer brake wiring
There is a plug under the dash that your brake controller will plug into. Look for an electrical junction box just above the parking brake. On top of it, there should be a blue, 4 pinconnector. You will need to pick up an adaptor that goes into this plug, they are available at NAPA and other auto parts store I'm sure. The cost is around $12. The adapter will have theplug endthat goes into the connector on your truck and 4 wires (red, blue, white, and black) that you splice into your brake controller. As far as a brand of controller, a lot of guys that tow campers like the Prodigy. It is well over $100, but it has an internal pendulum that applies more braking to the trailer as the nose of your truck dips. These are probably good if you are planning on doing a lot of towing or have a heavy trailer. I got a cheaper one for around $80. It works, but I hate the little slider that you use to adjust the amount of braking force. It is too small to adjust on the fly and has too small of a range for the amount of braking force. That is, a movement of 1/8" of the slider give a fairly large difference in braking. If I towed a heavier camper, I wouldconsider a better brake controller.
Read over the posts above. I wrote that a while ago, but had some decent info there. Just make sure your truck does have the brake wire installed all the way back to the plug. If it doesn't, you have to run a wire. Test out your plug before you hook up the trailer. Here is a good link for testing the plug. http://dodgeram.org/tech/mods/electric/trailer_wire.htm
