Default B2500 Van - towing problem

Hi guys,

Just picked up a 1995 Ram 2500 van with 360 Magnum engine. The van was equipped with an aftermarket tow hitch when I bought it - yesterday I towed my Miata racecar using a U-Haul trailer and the back of the van was REALLY low - the van has 162k miles and I do not know its exact service history with regards to shocks, etc. The trailer and Miata only weigh combined 5000lbs which should be easy for the 2500.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which parts I should look into/replace and in what order or what is causing this sagging? I am having trouble finding replacement leaf springs and parts for the B2500 - are the Ram Pickup parts interchangeable?

Thanks in advance...

You could replace the springs http://www.eatonsprings.com/ Or get some air springs.

Thanks, so I assume that the springs are the most likely problem? Is this because the van wasnt equipped with a tow package from the factory do you think?

I'd put my money on the springs as well. It could be a combination of things that caused the springs to wear out and sag. First and foremost being the high mileage of the vehicle! 162k is quite a bit. The van body puts a lot more strain on the springs than a truck body would. You also don't (or maybe you do?) know what the van was used for the last 11 years. Maybe they hauled people/stuff around frequently.

I know the Ram towing package didn't include any upgraded springs for towing. The van package might have though. You may also want to look into an add-on transmission cooler if the tow package is not factory.

Thanks for this, very helpful. Would you recommend a stock-replacement spring or an air helper spring type like this: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku
