Default Hypertech Installed Last Night - Worth It?

Everyone. I don’t want to send the wrong impression, or upset anyone here, but I installed my new Hypertech III last night, and didn’t notice a thing different. This may be due to the way I set it, I don’t know. I wanted to see if I could get some of you more experienced users of it to shed some light for me.

Truck:
2000 Ram 1500 QC Sport 4x4
5.9 (360)
35 x 12.50 x 17 Tires

They ONLY mod on my truck is Flowmaster exhaust so far.

Hypertech Install Selections I Made:

87 Octane

Tire Size Set to 35 (Is that correct)

I left the REV limiter and other settings as they were. I only changed Octane and Tire size. Can anyone with an exact or similar truck and tires let me know what you are set to and if you noticed any difference. The ONLY thing I noticed was that it shifted a little harder, that is it. Haven’t drove long enough to test for gas mileage change, but will know soon. I have not installed the 180* therm yet, doing that tomorrow. I have a Stant superstat I am putting in. I will also receive my Fastman 52 TB next week to add to it.

I am just wondering if I spent $283 for nothing, or what.

if you had the "death flash" on the pcm originally youll notice a night and day difference.. if you have a regular programed pcm then you should still be able to feel the difference. the best thing bout thehypertech tho is that it really helps to compliment other mods.. like a cai and full exhaust.. it woke up my truck from a deep sleep when i put it on..but im modded pretty good

hmmm. i am pretty new to the site here and havent read about the death flash, but i will now. i guess i didnt have it, since i havent noticed much so far. i also tow a 20 foot camper, so i want to see if it improves that any. that is a big reason i am adding these mods to my truck for a little more power and better mpg. i will be adding the TB as mentioned and thermostat and a drop in K&N and maybe i will see some performance improvent then. just from hearing everyone talk about the programmer i thought i would notice some improvement last night, and didnt

should i adjust the rev limiter for my setup, i left it at default. if so, i have no idea what to set it to. my tires are 35's, and that is what i programmed for tire height. Is that correct, or does it use a different formula that i am not aware of?

That is kinda disapointing. I was planning on making that my next mod. Would it be a better idea to hold of and get a modified throttle body or something? I want my truck to be faster (of course) but I also want to get a little extra pulling power for the boat this summer. All that I have right now is a Flowmaster exhaust, a 180 T-stat and that MSD, which probably seems pointless on an almost stock truck but I got a hell of a deal and I figured I would end up doing it sooner or later, so why not sooner!

yeah, thats why i am hoping maybe someone can help clarify if my setting are correct or not. I ask that you not base you decision off my post, because I like you have read too many good things about it, and it may be a miracle cure for yours. maybe i just have bad *** tuck already and she is doing all she can.

and like i said, before i make a complete judgement on it, i want to go through a whole tank of gas or 2 and see if that improves in. i wll have the first tank out of the way by end of the weekend to see.

one thing that stands out big time is the 35" tires on 17" rims... with stock gearing and 35's your performance is really going to suck. what I recommend you do is to burn up the gas you have, then fill it with premium (small amount if you just want to test it), and install the 93 program (will work fine with 91 octane in most cases... worked for me) then swap the t-stat to a 180 deg F one.

things you need to remember... a bone stock ram 4x4 QC weighs over 5k lbs, add the bigger meats that you have (approx 70~75 lbs each vs 50 lbs for stock) and your adding to the overall weight of the truck. The heavier you get, the less you'll feel any change.

what your next investment should be is 4.56 gearing...

with all the users here saying it's worth it... i'd still do it. My truck in it's worst day (cracked heads, leaky plenum) saw an improvement with the programmer, It had 34's and 4.11's though so it was easier to feel

well my 35's are about shot and i will be replacing them soon and planning to go to 33's, or maybe even back to stock 265's. maybe i will see a difference then, sure i would even without the programmer.

as far as the gears, wouldnt that really hurt my mpg? i tow a camper on trips and such and mileage currently sucks, like 8-9 towing. i cant afford for that to get any worse

being a gasser and runnig 4.56's with larger tires .. your towing is gonna suck..espeically with a 20 foot camper... for some reason when you add larger tires and regear it to fit the tires (4.56's) your towing capacity goes downward fast...

steves CTD with stock gearing and 40's would still tow like a monster.. but a gasser has WAY less tq
