Default Best brand of shocks

Just got a call from a buddy, he has a 2001 ext cab slt with a 5.9. The truck is bone stock. The truck has well over 200,000 miles on it and has been eating shocks like candy. His 3rd set in the last 2 years is now trashed. What does eveybody run here and how do you like them? Keep in mind the high miles he drives. Thanks all.

I have read and heard that Bilsteins are about the best shock you can get, but I don't have first hand experience with them to confirm this. I run Rancho 9000RSX adjustable, and am very happy with them. They run about $85-$90 per shock, but I got mine during a buy 3 get one free sale. I have had Rancho 5000 as well, but they were very stiff, and I would not use them again.

Rancho 5000 on mine. As he said very stiff. Wife hates it. So does my coffee habit. Have to drink between bumps.

Silver, the 9000's are smoother?

Going with Bilsteins myself, found a set for my front for 60 bucks for both on e-bay, just waiting on them to get here and still looking for a set for the back.

Yes, at least when you have them set on the low settings like 1-3. Turn the **** up to about 7, and they get very stiff. And they go all the way to 9 too.

I had the CarQuest Gas Bruiser on and didn't care for them to much. To stiff. Paid about $30.00 per shock. I switched to the SkyJacker Hydro 7000's. Much better ride and control has improved. Paid $32.99 per shock. I have noticed people that want a decent ride have been switch from the h.p.g. shocks over to the hydraulic shocks up here.
