Default RE: OIL PRESSURE SENSOR

A couple of weeks ago someone had a similar issue with their gauge dropping as they went faster. The sending unit was bad. Hopefully replacing it will resolve the issue.

Default RE: OIL PRESSURE SENSOR

Bumping this one up...

So, hey, I was driving home from work last week in my 96 Ram 15005.2 V8, and I noticed my oil pressure gauge going nuts... it would stay at 40 for awhile, thendive down to 0, up to the lower red line, up a bit higher, then back to 40, etc.

I wasn't sure if I had a major oil leak and was cavitating the oil pump, so I checked that. Then I did some figuring and called my father to get his opinion (it used to be his truck), and I'm guessing it's the sending unit, as described above.

Here's another thought, though. I noticed in the Hayne's manual that the sending unit delivers parallel signals to both the analog gauge and the low oil light. Interestingly, through all the diving and dipping down to zero and hanging there for a second, the light never turned on. This has me wondering whether the sending unit is actually fine, and my problem isn't just with the analog gauge itself, or maybe the wiring to it.

I'm planning to try to get a couple leads in to the sending unit to an offline volt meter to see if the signal is jumping around.

Any thoughts from the Dodge pros in here?

Chris
