Was driving home tonight when my gas light came on...and was wondering on the rams how long you can go before you actually run out of gas?

 

I think the reserve is somewhere around 8 gallons (on the larger tank anyway). Could be less, but usually when I'm empty and I fill up the total is about that much less than the tank capacity.

 

Gas light comes on with 1/8 capacity left. On my 132 L tank i can go over 50 km

 

mine seems to be 8 gallons also.
i have the 35 gallon tank.
by the time i get around to filling it, it usually takes about 28.5 gallons. i drive about 10 or 20 miles after the light goes on.
warning lights come on when some imports are at 3/4 of a tank.... [sm=WTFsgign.gif]

 

weird how the gas light comes on when you still have 8 gallons left.. usually their suppose to come on when your down to 1 or 2 gallons so you know to get to the gas station.. hell i could still run 2 more hours on 8 gallons

 

I have gone 30 miles after the light came on, pulling a 6500 lb trailer at about 5000 ft. altitude but never ran it completely out of gas.

 

Hehe, My gas light came on, i ran another 50 miles and when i had to fill up, i filled 25.6 gallons.... Less than half a gallon in the tank when i filled... I noticed when i punched the gas before i got to the station, i almost stalled...

 

I believe that current sending units in most modern vehicles are quite sensitive to cheap fuel with a high sulphur content. My Grand Am actually had a recall on it for the sending unit because people using crappy gas were running out before the guage read empty. All they did was reprogram it to read higher than it was and therefore you had quite a bit of fuel in the tank once the light comes on. It's probably the same for most modern vehicles.

 

I still had about 28 liters (approx 7.5 gallons) left in my tank when I filled up last time the light came on.

 

My 99' usually comes on with about 6 gallons left, that is if i have the 26 gallon tank, which i beleive i do. Ive gone about 55 miles after the light was on on rt 80 pullin a 22 foot bass boat at about 80mph, and it was almost empty when i filled it.
