Default Service ?

When I got the new wheels and tires on, they said I needed new lower ***** joints. They said 220 for them installed is that a reasonably price? Also I heard a rattling so I figured it was the cat, hit it lightly with a hammer ya it rattles, but as I was under the truck I figured I might as well look around. So as I was messing with the front u joint and I can move them like up and down and a little rubber strand was coming out from them..is that normal? I am a complete noob on suspention and drivetrain stuff and was just wondering if I should get my u joints looked at also. Thanx alot!!

$220 doesn't seem THAT bad, but its obviousl;y alot cheaper to do them yourself. You kinda need a few special tools to do them though, like the press's. Take your truck to the dealer and see if your covered in the ext warrenty! If you are see if you can get a High Flow Cat instead (cheaper)

You talking about drive shaft u joints or axle? Either way that doesn't sound normal, sounds like the rubber seal is shot so dirt and dust can get into them, not to mention most of the grease can get out.

Axel (ones rite inside from the tire) ya there is not greese or anything, there is dirt and stuff inside I think. The dealer will install a high flow cat? I thought the warrenty or recall if im eligable is only for oem replacement parts.

I dunno, you'd have to ask if they're install a high flow one. I think they're like right about $200 for a high flow, cheaper then the OE one so ya never know it'd be cheaper for them if they put in a high flow

The dealer prolly gets better deals on oem parts then aftermarket, but I'll check.

Definately time for u-joints...shouldn't be able to move them like that at all...even if just one side is bad, most likely the other isn't far behind, best to get them both done...make sure whether you do it yourself or have them done elsewhere, to get good, greaseable ones...and keep them greased :P.
