6 mpg after hypertech/KN and trans repair
I am actually happy with way its running, I have thought about replacing injectors because of normal wear and tear, was planning on going to champion truck plugs this summer, I will have to look at plugs good when I pull them, as for fuel pressure, I know I have a line tap in there just don't have the guage, will check that out also. I just think motor is getting tired, I would love to be able to plumb a Hemi 4x4 setup into my chassis, have did a little research on it, would need a **** load of fabrication work done, but its possible.
Just hate the idea of buying a new truck, with everything I have on this truck, Im looking at upwards of $30,000 +/- to replace it. Thanks Steve, keep shooting idea's out

well, when I was setting it I told it NOT to change the stock tire size, as I have not yet done any tire mods.
dunno if the fan clutch is bad, but it would make sense, cause it is having a bitch of a time starting. it has to turn over a couple times more than it should.....
I also was running pretty low oil pressure during the last 1/2 of that tank. 35-40.....
keep forgeting i have to put a quart in every 200 miles.
we will see what happens this tank, I put some oil in just before I filled up.

well holy crap!!! your using a quart for every 200 miles? PLENUM GASKET!!!!!!!!!! man mine was severely blown and i was only using a quart for every 3000 miles... that will SERIOUSLY damage your MPG's!!!!! not to mention horendous carbon build up witch will raise your compression witch will REALLY **** of your motor!!!!!!
search for plenum gasket and fix's its usually covered here once a week...
best way to check to see if yours is blown..take of the air intake box off the TB and peak inside wiht a flashlight and a mirror (mirror optional) and at the rear of the intake there will prolly be a lake of oil that will always be readilly availble for combustion witch is NOT good!!!!!!!!
in a more severe case of oil cunsumption.. does your truck blow dark smoke from the tail pipe? just something to ask..although ive really never heard of rings or head gaskets going bad on the magnum motors except one time... 9.9 times out of 10 its gonna tbe the plenum gasket gone bad

well, it is blown. but I do not think the plenum is the big problem. i am leaking antifreeze from an injector.....
and on startup it blows oil smoke, but not during normal driving.
i am just waiting till summer to do a top end rebuild.

Yeah man, its your plenum. If your adding a quart of oil every 200 miles then its either plenum or cracked head, which could kill your gas mileage and let antifreeze in.. If your leaking antifreeze in the injector then somethings F-d up BADLY... I'm talking you have a direct line going from your radiator to your fuel rail type sh*t. Which I put any money amount of money on, its not...
Yeah, its your plenum, but whether you want to replace it or not is your call, trust us, you'll see a better MPG gain... One thing to do is take your air filter off, take a long cotton swab, open the throttle body (with the truck off unless you like blowing engines) and swab around down there towards the rear. Make sure the swab is not jarred up leaving stuff down there... If that thing comes up black with oil on it, change your plenum gasket...
Of course, you could just leave it alone and suffer with the 8-9 MPG... I would prefer doing this cheap mod/fix to get my mpg's back to 14-16... It's your call...
A quart every 200 miles? thats way too much... My little nissan sentra that BLEW smoke and used more oil than gas wasnt near as bad as that...

one thing just came to mind for you guys with crappy gas milage... it could be possible that your injectors are sticky and are leaking a little when they are supposed to be closed. I would suggest running BK44 fuel injector cleaner and an octane booster with premium gas, about 10~12 gallons worth. that would give you a high concentration of cleaner to gas which would accelerate the cleaning some. Run the tank down as far as you can before re-filling it.
have a look at your fuel pressure also... if it's not right around 49 psi, then there is definately a problem with the pump or injectors.
Also if you ever have your fuel rail off for any reason, flush it with carb cleaner to get all the gunk out of there.
Tib2001, fix your plenum and do a seafoam treatment on the motor... in the fuel, and draw in a can thru a vacuum line. let it soak for about 15 minutes, then fire it back up. this will get rid of all the carbon buildup on your pistons & valves and clean out your motor really well.
As for whoever mentioned the cracked head... almost all stock heads will crack, they suck. If your motor runs sweet and there is no miss at all, count your blessings and get a good set of headers on it and a 180 deg t-stat.
why headers? because if you look at the stock manifolds, all of the exhaust gasses are sent to the rear of the manifold and the #'s 7&8 cylinders are getting the most heat because of it. those are the #1 cylinders that have the problems. get a good set of headers and now your drawing the heat away from the cylinders evenly. I think this helps in the long run if your running stock heads.

Whoa I never noticed that Steve... I will definetly invest in some headers... And a high flow cat while I'm at it lol
My heads are not cracked as of yet, no misses in the engine, and definetly getting a 180 Tstat in the next few weeks along with a flush, The damn radiator fluid is dark as all can be, like a nasty brown color and I just bought it last month! oh well its due anyways i believe.
BTW I'm glad to see your still frequenting this side of the forum =)

Once your ready to fill for the last time... USE DISTILLED WATER with the 5 year (orange) coolant. tap water will form sludge again with the 5 year coolant.
Have you replaced the thermostat or a hose lately. If there is antifreeze leaking in that area, the fan could be blowing it back toward the injector area and puddle around injector.
Another thing I would look for is oil in the antifreeze or antifreeze in the oil. Milky looking oil.
