Default Couple of electrical problems

Hey dudes.

These have me stumped.

I posted a problem here about a month ago involving the seat belts. Every now and then the seatbelts would lock up and the seatbelt light would come on. I tried cleaning the connections below the seats and it got better but didn't completely go away. When these events happened, I could make it go back to normal by opening and closing the door or sometimes just by wiggling the seatbelt connector.

Today, I drove the truck after it has set for about a week and the front seatbelts were locked and the light stayed on. Also, the headlights are on low beam even when the light switch is turned off. I'm not sure when that one started. I was checking fuses and did pull an airbag fuse which the car didn't seem to like.

Any thoughts about what could be the cause?

I might be making some progress. In an effort to isolate the circuit involved, I started pullign each fuse. When I pulled the fuse in the engine compartment labeled "drl" the headlights went out and the light system seemed to work normally again. I'l take a look at a wiring diagram but for now I'm wondering if drl could mean driving lights?

When the drl fuse is in place, the headlights reamain on low beam all the time. The dimmer switch does not seem to have any effect nor does the headlight switch.

I haven't made any progress on the seatbelt problem.

What really baffles me is that I can't think of any event that caused this and the fact that both problems started at the same time. When I was looking under the dash on the drivers' side I did notice alot of electrical tape on wires that makes me wonder what the DPO might have been up to. Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

I looked in the manual and learned that drl is the daytime running lights available on canadian models (which mine is).

I pulled the drl fuse and all is well but I'm still having the seatbelt problem. I am going to try to locate the wiring going to the seatbelt units. Does anyone know if they need current to extend (realease) or if the current is required to make them lock. If current locks, I can just cut the current. If current release, I could just run ignition hot to them.

I would guess that there is no actual current going to the seat belts. It probably makes the negative side of the circuit going to a relay. So it could be grime and dirt, or a spilled soda or something down at the point where the seat belt attaches to the structure. Just a guess. I may have this problem and not know it. I got used to the little red man along time ago. The only time I put a seat belt on is when I see a cop, and then, I'm usually looking in the rear view mirror so I've never noticed whether he goes away or not.
