Default 01 Ram 1500 vs. 06 ford F-250 5.4

Hey everyone, me and my friend have been debateing who would win the race and hes been talkin alot of **** about dodge and its really pissing me OFF! We have not had a chance to race but i will tell you the facts on each truck and you let me know what you guys think thanks.

First off my truck is a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9 4x4 off-road quad cab short bed with dual flowmaster cat-back exhaust system and drop in K&N Filter and MSD superconductor wires and platinum 2 plugs. I also have 4.10 gears and 265-70-17.

My friends truck is a 2006 Ford f-250 4x4 XL regular cab long bed with 5.4 liter and 3.73 gears and 265-70-17.

Please let me know even tho my truck has 75000 on it and his only has 11000 i think i should be able to beat him???

Even if i could I love my dodge!!!!

Any chance after a few mods i could keep up with or beat a chevy 2500 with the 6.0 ???

Thanks everyone!

The 6.0 in the chevy/gm vehicles is a nice stout motor, my g/f's mom escalade has the 6.0 and for the size of that vehicle with AWD it kicked *** in racing =)

However the 5.9 is a nice motor too (not from experience but from all the good stuff i've heard). you might have a chance, just all depends on the driver and the weight of the vehicles i believe...

You should have a chance on the slow ford, but the only way to know is to actually race him... Can't get straight answers from a board, just gotta do it

That'd be a tough one to call. Since you have a 4x4 QC thats alot of extra weight, but I guess he has 4x4 and and even bigger cab not to mention more weight from it being an F-250...

he is running the 2500 long wheel base with that 5.4 liter triton gasoline motor? I would be ashamed if you didn't beat him.

The guy I am in business with has a 5.4 liter in an '05 f150 2 wd and I destroy him

The 5.4 has no low end, so you should take him off the line and he'll be looking at Dodge tail lights all the way. As an added bonus you might get to see what happens to a 5.4 when it has a major failure, they have quite a reputation for that

I totally agree, having driven both alot a 5.4 is weak.

my friend has a 2002 silverado 2500 hd with the 6.0... runs 15.24 at the track stock.. i can hold him threw 1st but he takes me after that.. you cant forget that those 6.0's have 350hp.. and his truck has the allison tranny out of a diesel.. but i do have a 5 speed 5.2 with a hypertech programmer.. drop in k&n and a low temp stat.. maybe a 5.9 can keep up with A LOT of mods.. 5.9's have 245hp.. its all about the hp! same with that 5.4 2006.. find out how much hp that thing has and you'll have a basic idea

you know ya gotta remember the 5.9 engine came out in the early 70's and with few changes over the years i think something like +30hp, it was running strong through 2002. if it can keep up with the 5.4, as far as i know, a much newer engine, then HELL YEAH TAKE HIS *** DOWN!!

i think whast really gonna help you is your 4.10's and your "small" tires... your motor will have to spin faster then his to turn the same size tires...if your motor is spinning faster that means your RPM's are higher (obviously) and would get you in the higher rpm range to help pull you away from him...

his gears 3.73 and smaller motor will have to work WAY more harder then your truck will to turn the same size tires... i think thats a plus for you!!!!!

not sure about the weight difference..i bet you 2 are close to being equal.. his being a 250 but reg cab .. yours being a 1/2 ton but ext cab.. both 4X4's

i think you got him! just gun it and see what happens
