Default Airaid Dyno results

First, let me introduce myself. I'm new to the forum and just bought a 01 5.9L 2WD. I own a shop that specializes in Fords but since I happen to have a chassis dyno, I figured I would test out the new Airaid I just got.

For the testing, I ran the truck until it got to full operating temp with the stock setup. As far as I can tell, the truck is bone stock. Results were 186 rwhp and 262 rwtq

I then put the Airaid on and got the truck back up to temp. The results were 196 rwhp and 274 rwtq. These numbers sound a bit low (the stock numbers) compared to some other dyno charts I came across, but like I said, this was fully up to temp. I may try an cooled off pass (truck is still strapped to the dyno).

Either way, I'm not here to argue dyno numbers or make this a bigger deal than it is. But I figured I might as well run it on the dyno for the fun of it. Take it for what it's worth.

This truck can definitely benefit from some tuning. It runs pig rich in the upper RPM range. I may have to see what kind of software I can get my hands on to do some tweaking.

I think for a stock 5.9 is suppose to be like 230 or 240. You said you got 184, and I beleive you. I have the 5.2L and I know I'm being robbed of power and I don't have the 220 like I'm suppose to and for the life of me I can't figure out where

I think you are confusing rear wheel horsepower with what the manufacturer advertises. They advertise flywheel horsepower. You lose about 23% or so through the drivetrain on my truck. So, it's supposed to have 250 fwhp which would come to 192 rwhp. So, I was pretty close to that number.

Hey KenB, just out of curriousity how much do you charge if somebody off the street comes in and wants a Dyno run? Just a rough idea cause I want to find one by me maybe and just want a clue about how much they run. Like $20 or $200??? Thanks

We charge $100/hr to rent the dyno. 1 hour minimum. I'd say that's pretty standard amount. Look around for local clubs, they often have 'dyno days' where a bunch of people will get together and rent the day out and it will be cheaper. We do a few of those a year for different groups.

It's pretty cool to see some real world results. And I'd think that the CAI might make even a little more more power with the vehicle moving due to a further reduction in the underhood air temperature.

I'd be pretty interested in results of other bolt ons like the fastman throttle body, headers, Hypertech, etc. In fact, maybe the fastman would be willing to do one up for you at a discounted rate if you agree to post the results. Just a few thoughts.
