Hello all,

I received my 52mm fastman for my 360 on Friday, and installed it on Sunday. Took about 1 ½ hours, and I have never changed one before. The job was quite simple really if you read the directions a couple of times before you start.

I have to say I DEFINITELY felt the difference. I was very pleased. The takeoff power was very noticeable. I have 35” mudders on my mine, and from a dead stop, it would just light them up, not that I do that often but…..

So anyone wondering if you should get it, don’t hesitate. I installed the Hypertech by itself before that and didn’t really notice any difference at all, and actually lost 1-2 MPG’s while towing my camper. But now I have installed a Stant 180* thermostat, 52mm fastman, new plugs, wires, Dist. Cap and rotor and noticed a major change in power.

I will be towing my 20 ft. camper this weekend, so I cant wait to see if it helps out on towing, he said it would. I will post the results on towing and mileage changes. I plan to tow it there with the hypertech programmed, and then I am going to reset back to stock for towing on the way back, just to see any differences.

Also wanted to say thanks to everyone here for the help and wonderful info, this is a great place to learn and share with others our experiences.

Thanks for the info ctfortner. I am thinking of getting one myself. I read on the Fastman website that for towing he recommends the 50mm for the 5.9. Would you have any thoughts why he recommends the smaller one?

 

it will help minimize any low end torque loss... i'd still get the 52mm TB for a 5.9. you can help the low end torque out in other ways.

 

yeah hilliad, i called and talked to Dan (fastman) and told him i towed some also, and he said i should go with the 52mm anyway since towing was not my MAIN function. You should give him a call, nice guy and more than happy to talk about it. that and listen to steve00, he knows his stuff too

I am curious about your statement that you didn't notice a difference from the Hypertech. I have been looking to get one myself. Everything I have read has been positive and I believe there are some members on here that said they noticed more of a difference from the programmer than the TB upgrade. Could it be that the combination of all the mods (including the new plugs, wires, etc) is what made the difference?

 

You can check the Hypertech website for the Dyno results. It appears that Dodge did a tune-up of it's own at some point (can't remember the year). The older 360's (230hp) had a big boost of power from the Hypertech and then the 360 was tuned up by Dodge to have 245hp. After that point the Hypertech makes minimal difference. I would think that if you have mods, then the Hypertech would accomodate them better and that is where the difference would actually come out between stock and hypertech programming.

 

I looked at the hypertech dyno charts again for the 01 5.2 and 5.9. One thing I noticed for the 5.2 is that their test vehicle had 225/55/16 tires. Those are pretty small tires (like 26"). Stock size for the 4x2 is either 225/75/16 or 245/75/16. Based on that do you think you would notice similar gains using stock tires as opposed to the tires used on the test?

Also, it looks like the 5.9 really only benefits from the high octane setting with the 50006 programmer. The 87 octane setting only produced a few hp and a few lb/ft of torque on the dyno.

 

congrats on the new mod. post back with the results on your towing/milage test. I tow a camper as well and I'm always looking for ways to improve milage and power.
