Intake Manifold Gasket Question
Question for anyone who can answer this. The dealership ran a diagnostics and said my intake manifold gasket is shot, which in turn is causing me to leak oil. I have to put a quart or two of oil in each week. He also said the job to replace the gasket would cost about $600. I did some research and you can buy a new inatke manifold for about $575. It didn't add up so i was going to buy the gasket and accessories and try to have somebody who knows what they are doing fix it.
Does any know if this is all i need?

INTAKE GASKETS Magnum 5.2/5.9
p4876049 Kit comes complete to service one engine set includes gaskets, end seals,o-rings, and distributor seal where applicable $32.95
I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 318 5.2 L, V8 SLT, 4WD, Manual Transmission truck. Or is this going to be way to complicated. I can't do it myself but i think i know someone who can help. Should this do the job if the guy at the dealership says i need to replace the gaskets?

they might mean the plenium intake gasket. IT is a common failure. When you have teh intake off unbolt the bottom plate and install a new gasket there as well. i think it is like 19 bucks or so.
all 94-01 5.2's and 5.9's are the same (for the most part)
They said the gasket is bad and them mean the Pldnum Gasket. Its on the bottom of the intake. You don't need to buy a new intake, all you need is common tools, basic car knowledge, and a few hours. Its easy to swap and it will run you about $50 for gaskets.
Get Fel-Pro gaskets, they're the best. You might want to get an aluminum plenum pan from APS precision so you don' t have this problem. You can take it to the dealer and spend $600, and probably have it leak again in a few years cause they'll put the same steel pan on there, or you can do it yourself and it won't leak for like $50!
