How big a camper can i safely pull with my ram
I plan on buying a pull behind camper and want to know what you guys can safely pull
heres my specs
Stick shift - 318 shortbed
I have a electric brake contoller
class 3 frame hitch.
What Im looking for is the longest size trailor I can tow with out troubles?
Its not a desiel but I dont plan on pulling it more than a few times a summer so I see no need to upgrade the truck.
I just need to know when I buy my camper what is too big. What do you all pull?

It depends on if your going over mountains a whole lot. I would look at the trailer weight, no more than 6000 lb's as recommended by factory unless you have the weight distribution hitch.
Just for a reference, I can pull a 26 foot boat no problem on a stock 318 through the mountains, and it weighs like, 5000lb's.. =)

Hint: Don't go TOO BIG.
I pulled a 27ft 5th Wheel and it was TOO BIG... sure the weight was within the specs of the truck BUT you sure make that 318 work.
Now I pull a 19' 5th for camping that weighs 3000 lbs DRY... it is a LOT easier on the truck.
So try and stay around 20 - 24 ft and get an "ultra lite" if you can.
