Default argh, 4wd not working

tore my axle apart last week to replace hubs, seals, and u-joints. tested 4wd on pavement, it "seemed" like it worked. took it out in the dirt last night, no difference in 2 or 4wd.

here's whats goin on. transfer case still engages correctly, i can feel it. 4wd light comes on. but i am not getting 4wd traction.

i am pretty sure it is the CAD. normally when i put it in 4 wheel drive on pavement and turn tightly, i get some bucking. i tried that, no bucking. so it seems the CAD is not locking the passenger side axle in, so i'm just spinning the diff up front. i will have to check and make sure the vaccum up front is working ok, and i may have to pull the cad cover off again.

quick question though...when i took the CAD apart the first time, i wasn't sure how the shift collar went back on. so i put it back on with the tapered end facing the passenger side. i dont know if that would make a difference either way, so i thought i'd ask the friendly folks on dodge forum any thoughts on this are appreciated.

I cant remember which way the collar goes. but I would pop the cover and hold the cad in your hand and see if the fork moves as some one puts it in 4WD.

but first I would see if you have a vacuum leak.
