I bought a '98 1500 from a used car dealer.

Im told its a sport but they are not sure if it is. So my first question is, Is there a way to get a copy of the factory build sheet so I can see what exactly I have?

And secondly I just ordered a nice remote start/remote doorlock set that I want to install myself. Question number 2 is, Can I get an accurate wiring diagram for my year, or are the schematics in the Chilton books accurate, or just a guideline?

Im an Electronic Controls Engineer by trade so Im quite familiar with the electronics portion but without an accurate diagram with wire colors etc. it could get ugly, and I really dont want to have to spend a week probing/tracing wires to find the right ones.

Any help you guys could supply would be awesome.

I think the FSM in the "merry christmas" thread at the top is for a 98, but I could be wrong.

Also all the Sport Package was is a package for looks, trim, ext. If your front and rear bumpers are the same color as the truck (not crome) its a sport. Probably easiest way to tell

wow the dealer couldnt even tell you if it was a sport? Thats interesting. If you go pick up a haynes manual and use the wiring diagrams in there with your background as an electronic controls engineer you will be fine. I used them and a multimeter and had no problems at all installing my remote start/keyless entry. And the only electonics background i have is the 2 classes i had to take for hvac in college.

The FSM above I think is for a 2000, but will be a good thing to have for any Ram thats 94-02. Do a search on this forum for "build sheet" and you will find the DC link to request one. Took me about 2 days to get mine. Have your VIN ready, or any DC dealer will/should be able to print it for you.
