Default Power Steering Pump Leaking

My 1999 Dodge 1500 blows the bottom seal in the power steering pump, where the pitman arm goes on. I have replaced it twice. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they have done to fix it.

Thats the gear box, not the pump

Thats wierd it has blown twice. Do you have oversized tires? How many miles are on it? Who installed it last time, they could have done it wrong. Are you hard on it, cause when you turn the wheel from lock to lock all the way it puts ALOT of presure on that seal.

My box just started leaking for the top about 2 monthes ago. I put some Lucas PS Stop Leak in it to slow it down until I ahve time to fix it. To my supprise its gone completly. So unless it comes back I'm leaving it lol

it's your pitman shaft bearings. they get sloppy and the shaft will move around and wear out the seal.

Yeah mine was leaking for about 2 weeks, and all of a sudden it stopped, the fluids are all full and the seals were never replaced, a mystery to me.

if you installed yourself and didnt get all of the air out of the box before starting it up than thats why. Also you could have a power steering pump thats not up to par, ruining your boxes.

Yes, I worded that badly it is the gearbox. I have Hankook RF01 265's but that is'nt big enough to bother. I also pull a enclosed trailer weighing in at 3.5 ton. I installed the seal the first time and had a mechanic do it the second. We were thinking about piling two seals on top of eachother.

YOU WOULD'NT BE ABLE TO INSTALL THE LOCK RING WITH TWO SEALS.

Are the gearboxes from psc rebuilt or are the new with a better design?
