Default K&N Drop in filter?

Anyone ever use this filter? Not the FPIK but the simple drop in... I actually felt a little bit of difference, and the exhaust note seems to be a little lower thanks to the extra air coming in? Anyways, i was wondering how far I could go in performance wise (rockers/intake/tb ect) without having to get a different setup? Thanks!

I've used a K&N filter in every car, truck and motorcycle I've owned for the last 30+ years and will until someone proves to me that there is something better. The flow better when dirty than a paper element does new out of the box and they last forever.
Just my 2 cents.

The only real advantage of a K&N drop in is that they last longer then paper filters, and over time you can save money by not having to buy new paper filters on a regualr basis. You might notice a small performance gain, but don't expect too much.

i've been using one for about 15k miles now (put it in at 26k nobody had done it before me and the paper thing was blacker than dirt) and it's been great so far still looking clean too. reminds me i should probably oil that thing up again soon.

performance wise i don't think there was a difference other than more air being able to flow because the k&n was clean and the stock paper one wasn't.

now if i had a dyno shop i'd do a pull and tell ya if there was.. but i don't have a dyno shop.. another thing to add to my list for my garage.

They flow better at the expense of efficiency. I had one in my truck and did not notice a huge difference, but in the Durango and Dakota you could feel the difference.

Don't get me wrong, I have drop in one in my Truck, and a 14"X4" with the filter lid in my Nova, but I'm not sure that your comment is a GOOD thing. If the dirt and crud is not on the element, then where is it? Inside the engine.

But hey! The sound cool with that whooshing sound and look great on my open air element. But it occurs to me that we may all be victims of great marketing.
