Default edlebrock shorties

for those of you who have them, what do you think? I have heard lots of good about them and the only negative I have read about was on this forum where someone said they rusted up and someone else said they put out alof of heat and melted their fipk. Is there a good power upgrade with them?

I have heard that everyone with the ceramic coated loves them, but the it-techs are cr**, i believe it was shott who has had a bad experience with not only the headers but edelbrock as a company

The special shorty headers developed by Chrysler's SRT division gained less than 3% power on the 6.1 Hemi.

I would estimate that the shorty Edelbrock headers would be about the same or less.

Worth the money?
Your call.

Wow what a great picture. Thats cool. Thanks for posting that.

I hear if you buy after market headers goto napa and buy a better gaskets. Some gaskets that come with the headers are of poor quality. I myself and waiting for the longtube headers that seems to be stuck in development. If longtubes never get built I will buy the edelbrock shorties. Since they dont do too much they will be the last thing on my upgrade list.

I don't think any of us have a 6.1 Hemi in our second gen Ram, so I question the relevance of that particular study. Pesonally, I installed Edelbrock ceramic shorties with 1 5/8" primaries, and I do see a noticable performance increase at high RPM. It was worth it in my opinion.

OOOHHH, push my buttons!

I have vowed to myself to try to never buy any more of Vic's products. I will state my case.

#1. Orderd my eddie shorties with the titech ceramic coating in september, installed them along with the rest of my exhaust system aroudn the same time, come january, they were already rusted, and spoted really bad. Also, where the collecter meets up with the downpipes on the cat, they use a lead donut that you have to pound onto the header before its installed. Who ever designed this needs to do a redo. At the time of replacement, the lead donut was erroded to almost nothing except its re-informent meshing thast used to bond the lead in to the shape.

#2. Called warrenty dept. at eddie and complained and sent them some pics. I told them that the truck is my DD and I can't afford any longer then a weekend for down time. So, they "graciously" accepted another payment of 350 bucks and shipped me a new set. Needless to say it took 3 weeks to get to my door from Cali to NY. I put the new set on the following weekend, and packed up the old rusted set and send them off back to Cali, out of my pocket of course, the following monday. Shipping headers isn't cheap, now that I realize why I payed for the shipping on both new and old sets. 5 weeks later they decided to refund my 350 bucks. They like to take their time at eddie, for some reason.

#3. The new headers, installed on the first weekend in february, are starting to rust again. Again, 4 months later they are rusting, not as fast as the fist set but I noticed that they are spotting really well all over. Also that ingenious lead donut collector is already falling apart and has caused me a exhaust leak that I had to fix a 2 weekends ago.

#4. When I get up the cash, I am going STRAIGHT to Gibson, buying their stainless steel set of shorties, with steel collectors, and puting them on the truck. The eddies are getting torched into small bits and peices and fed to my bench grinder, and some parts will be used to make a large header for my 50CC Honda Spree moped, since thats all they are really good for.

#5. The fellas on the phone were really nice. But actions speak louder then words. And the time it took to send me the new headers, I had to pay for the shipment both to and from, and the fact that sent me another set of junk, really didnt speak well for the company.

#6. I also removed all the edelbrock stickers on my tool chest. They send you a bunch everytime you buy something. Must make up for the poor products and service they provide. I don't even know why Im complaining! I got a bunch of free stickers!

Don't waste your time and money, call Gibson and tell them you want to spend your money wisely.

Again, Vic, if you ever get a chance to read this, gimme a call budy, I have some words for you.

Thats my case, unfortunatly, no one, not even Vic himself will change my opionon on their company and their customer service.

MODS: if eddie is a sponser for this site, no worries, everyone makes mistakes, I did..........twice.

Wow thanks for posting your opinion shott. The crazy thing is that I was looking at getting some gibson's originally. Do the stainless steel ones rust? I imagine not because they are stainless steel but it's worth asking. I am an 18 year old part time worker/student so I can't afford to make a mistake like that and having my headers rust out on me.
