Default 1.7 rockers

If you go to a 1.7 roller rocker, do you have to get new valve covers for the clearance issues? I have done a search and read someone here said you need to if you try the mopar performance rollers, but i heard someone else say if you have the Crower rollers then you dont. But i was just asking for some clarification. I have a 5.9 and i want to put in some 1.7 roller rockers when i do the plenum fix since ill have the intake off. Any info on the 1.7's would be great!!

Thanks yall!!

Someone help me out here. I think I remember it correctly... The 1.7 roller rockers for the 318-360 will fit under the stock covers. If you buy the ones from john and southeast proformance.

goto his site and call him. Hes a very nice guy and he will tell you all he can.

You want the 1.7 HARLAND SHARP's they are the best IMO

Harland Sharps will fit under the stock covers. I have heard Crowers will with some minor adjustments to the baffles using a 2x4. I don't know which is better, but Harland Sharps are much easier to install.

Whichever you pick, shop around. I was able to get my HS's cheaper at a local speed shop cheaper than I could anywhere online.

When Steve put in his Crower 1.7's he had to use the Mopar vavle covers. Not sure if he HAD to but he mentioned it to me when I was interested in buying his off him.

Mopower how much did you pay for your Harlands if you dont mind me asking.

I think HS shaft mounted are the only 1.7's that will fit under stock valve covers. Others might fit, but you will need to beat the baffles down some for the necessary clearance.
I'm using Mopar performance valve covers with my 1.7's (haven't installed them yet) not because they were needed, but becasue I like how they look. I figured since i'm going to have my valve covers off anyway to put on the 1.7's, why not put on new valve covers while at it. I got my 1.7's for about $300 shipped from John Mercedes.

I paid ~ $270. Just for ****s and giggles, after I looked them up on Summit and a couple of other places I went to the distributors page on the HS website and found them cheaper. Be careful w/ those Magnum valve covers. I was going to buy Steve's until I saw a picture of the baffles. The baffles on the stock covers suck, and the ones on the Magnums look even worse. Somebody sells a set of baffles online for the performance covers. You may want to look into that.

I just called a local shop, 270 for me too. I might go for it. Cheaper for then the Crowers, and for any place on the net as well. You went with the 5/16's non-adjustables, or did you convert the the 3/8 studs for the adjustables? PM/Email me with details if you could so I can stop jacking this fella's thread. Thanks mopower

I would like to not have to replace the valve covers. If i go with the Harland sharp rockers, it sounds like i wont have to. The only real decision now is if i want to go ahead and do rods and springs at the same time. It might be a good idea. The other thing i like about the harland sharp rockers is that they are self adjusting, if my memory serves me.
