94 Ram 1500 reg cab, After market step bars body bolt question.
Hey everyone, new to the forum here! Great looking place.!!
Ok, here is my current situation.
I got a set of step bars for my truck, Their supposed to use the BODY/FRAME mountings.
A bracket goes inbetween. and they give you longer bolts to use in place of the stock ones.
I wonder what the strength of the new ones VS's stock is.
Also What should the CAB body to frame bolts be torqued to ??
I have them currently at 40-50 lbs.
But I noticed today and yesterday, Im hearing a lil noise clunking thunking
from under the cab, everything feels tight, Bars wise, and I havent checked the
torque level since i installed them.
The noise seems to happen when turning or rocking side to side (hitting rain channel etc)
I didnt think to check the cab / Bed alignment PRE installing these.
So I dont know of any way to check it now.
Soooo my question is this.
Imported step bars, Should i use the bolts that came with them?
(currently installed)
Or is there a different bolt i should use (someone mentioned i think it was a T10??)
also if different have specs on them or homedepot part # etc?
thanks

You can check the top of your old bolts to see what grade/how strong they are. 40-50 might be a little low in my opinion. Did you use lock-tite? When I did my body lift it came with a good sozed thing of lock-tite.
When I put my body lift on, the dealer said the cab and bed bolts are 60 ft.lbs. Took some checking for him to get the answer. Might want to call and see if you get the same.
I used the ones that my steps came with. Haven't had any problems with them. I don't remember torquing them either. I just ran them on with the impact gun IIRC.
