Default Hypertech

Ok, I programmed my 01 dodge ram quad cab 360 5.9L auto trans with the hypertech. I've noticed a lot of chatter/spark knock at high RPMs since programming it. I programmed it to 87 grade fuel and didnt' touch any other settings such as tire size, speed limiter, rev limiter, etc. Any clue why i get so much chatter?

Did you have 87 or better in that tank, or was it still 85 octane?
Did you install a 180 t-stat?

If your pinging on the mid grade setting, you could run premium, that would probably take care of it. You could also try changing your plugs to one that is a temp range lower. I like the Autolite 3923.

I believe it already has the 180 degree stat, the temp has always been between cold and 210....with a normal stat, does it stay on 210?

I had 87 in the tank, I didnt' know 85 even existed. Next time I fill it up i'll put 89 in it and see what happens.

In the mean time, you could try putting in a can of octane booster so you don't ping for the rest of this tank until you get a chance to fill up with higher octane.

I might have had the numbers wrong (I think here in Colorado we have 85, 87/89 and 91 as the three choices). My point was, make sure you have a full tank of mid grade or better, what ever that number is in your area.

I had the same problem when I installed the hypertech on the 87 program and ran 87 fuel. I changed out my plugs to autolite 3923's and the problem was gone.
